Church Management

Church Management

A parish is an active community with a multiplicity of functions, activities and concerns. At St. John’s the parish priest must rely heavily on members of the congregation coming forward to assist in a variety of roles so that it is an effective force for good in our area.

Parish Priest:  The parish priest is tasked by the bishop to provide overall spiritual, pastoral and educational lead for the parish.

Parish Secretary: The parish secretary runs the parish office located in the presbytery.

Parish Chair:  The Chair of the parish is Margaret Tickner.

Liturgy Group:  This group plans worship particularly at key moments of the year – Christmas, Holy Week & Easter, First Holy Communion and other such occasions. Music is a very special part of our life at St. John’s and the parish is fortunate in having a Parish Music Group under the direction of Mrs. Phillipa Watkins. Additionally, Mr. Chris Donovan, Head at St. Anne’s primary school often brings children over to suing at our liturgies.

Parish Finance Committee (PFC): Under the chair of Anne Webster the PFC is responsible to the parish priest and diocese for the resources, buildings and grounds at St. John’s. The PFC is currently considering a major Project Development Plan to better utilize the hall for parish use, upgrade the church and make a range of improvements across the property.

Communications Group:  A small group under the chair of Maurice Hutton and supported commercially by Kevin Rourke of JCT IT Solutions is pioneering the upgrading of our IT, the parish website and the construction of a database.

Parishioners exercise a number of roles within the parish broadly covered in the Database Registration document.
